About Student Health Center

The UC Irvine Student Health Center (SHC) is a comprehensive outpatient clinic staffed with licensed primary care physicians, psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers, dentists, physician assistants, registered nurse practitioners, and registered nurses. Medical specialists from various disciplines including orthopedics/sports medicine, gynecology, and internal medicine provide on-site consultation on a regular basis. SHC utilizes health provider student trainees such as fellows, residents and/or student interns, in conjunction with licensed professionals, to deliver services to UCI students.

SHC also offers basic radiology and clinical laboratory services, insurance consultation, and an on-site pharmacy, making SHC a comprehensive and convenient clinic dedicated to serving students.

SHC provides medical, mental health and wellness services to all registered UC Irvine students regardless of insurance coverage. Most services are provided through scheduled appointments. However, walk-in and same day appointments for more urgent needs are also available.

All registered students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). If you have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must complete the waiver by the published deadlines. All SHC resources and services are also available to students who have waived UC SHIP.

The fundamental purpose of the Student Health Center is to enable students to maximize the academic experience by supporting them in maintaining the best possible physical and mental health in a confidential, safe, nurturing and inclusive environment. To that end, we provide:

Comprehensive primary care for health and wellness with an emphasis on personal sensitivity and attention to individual patient needs.
Convenient consultation and treatment in selected medical specialties.
First aid and basic urgent care for the campus community.
Medical surveillance and recommendations for the campus on a range of health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
Crisis consultation and outreach services to the campus community.

UC Irvine Student Health Center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This accreditation recognizes SHC’s long-standing commitment to providing the highest levels of quality care to the campus community and to the students we serve. In addition, it is a reflection of the highest levels of quality and efficacy in the conduct our business operations and practices.

Status as an accredited organization means that SHC has passed a series of rigorous and nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care, as established by the AAAHC. Over 5000 ambulatory health care organizations across the United States have achieved accreditation by the AAAHC, and undergo an extensive on-site, peer-based survey of its facilities and services.

Our accreditation status provides an extra measure of confidence to our students. UCI SHC is proud to have achieved accreditation, and we intend to consistently uphold the principles of quality improvement and quality care in the future.

Hours: Open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Wednesdays

SHC is closed on all UCI holidays and on any Saturday immediately following a University holiday that falls on a Friday (e.g., Cesar Chavez Day and Thanksgiving) or prior to a University holiday that is observed on a Monday (e.g., MLK Day; Presidents’ Day; Memorial Day; Labor Day). SHC is closed on weekends. However, extended hours do occur during the academic year including limited weekend hours. See below.

Extended Hours
During the academic year and in addition to its regular hours of operation, the Student Health Center is open during “extended hours”. Extended hours during AY 2024-25 will occur on Saturdays and will be from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. However, this schedule is subject to change. Refer to the extended hours schedule for AY 2024-25 below. There are no extended hours during the Summer months.
